Mondays this fall:

Manjushri Meditation
and Lamrim Study Group
based on Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand
by Pabongka Rinpoche

Detailed schedule for this class

DFF ManjushriLiberation in the Palm of Your Hand is the text of Pabongka Rinpoche's 1921 teaching on the entire Lamrim. Rinpoche taught for 24 days to an audiance of over 700 lamas and practitioners. The text is the most comprehensive and detailed guide to the Lamrim available in English, illustrated by analogies, conclusive formal logic, amazing stories and trustworthy quotations. Trijang Rinpoche says about the experience of hearing these teachings:

It was beneficial for the mind because it was so inspiring. Sometimes we were moved to laughter, becoming wide awake and alive. Sometimes we were reduced to tears and cried helplessly...

The Lamrim is the entirety of the Buddha's teachings synthesized into an orderly progression of teachings and meditations which help us achieve higher and higher levels of compassion and wisdom consciousnesses. From the point where we now are, we travel the path to eventual complete enlightenment, leaving behind suffering and developing the ability to deeply benefit others as we grow.

DFF plans to study the entire text on Monday nights during Ven. Chodron's absences. This is a very valuable experience, an important part of our studies. We find out what we really know and don't know, we greatly clarify our fuzzy thinking and we directly practice turning our study toward the benefit of others. As the geshes say about education in the great monasteries, 25 percent of a student's learning comes from the teacher, 25 percent from one's classmates and 50 percent from debate (for us, perhaps, leading sessions!). It's a wonderful chance to talk about our practice in very small groups, ask a lot of questions, discuss difficulties and share our Dharma experience and knowledge.

This class requires some knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism. New students should consider the upcoming Introduction to Buddhism series on Tuesdays.
